Muhamed Salim bin Mohd Ali

Muhamed Salim bin Mohd Ali is a Malaysian diplomat and public official who currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet), an intergovernmental organization under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. He was appointed CEO on 1 July 2025.[1]

Career

Muhamed Salim began his career in Malaysia’s public service as part of the Administrative and Diplomatic Service (PTD). He has served in several ministries, including the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

From 2020 to 2023, he was posted as the Agriculture Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in The Hague, Netherlands, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS). During his tenure, he played a key role in promoting Malaysian agricultural products, particularly tropical fruits such as durian, in the European market.[2][3][4][5][6]

As CEO of TFNet, he oversees international collaboration in the development, promotion, and sustainable trade of tropical fruits. TFNet works with member countries and development partners to enhance fruit value chains across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.[7]

Recognition

In 2023, Muhamed Salim was awarded the President’s Award from Putra Business School, affiliated toUniversiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for academic and professional excellence.[8]

Philately and public outreach

In addition to his diplomatic and leadership roles, Muhamed Salim has been actively involved in Malaysian philately. He has supported efforts to promote stamp collecting as a means of fostering national identity and cultural appreciation. He is also the President of Persatuan Filateli Malaysia also known as the Philatelic Society of Malaysia.

He contributed to the curation of the 2025 Stamp Exhibition in Putrajaya, which highlighted patriotic themes and featured Malaysian stamps recognized for their international value.[9][10]

His philatelic advocacy has been featured in national media, including articles on the investment and historical value of Malaysian stamps,[11] and reports highlighting Malaysia’s recognition on the international philatelic stage.[12]
