Papa Roncalli Street is a street in Harbıye neighborhood in Şişli District, Istanbul Province, Turkey. The street is parallel to Cumhuriyet Street.

The street is named after Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli (25 November 1881 – 3 June 1963), who served as a pope in the years 1958 and 1963 under the name of John XXIII.[1] Prior to his election as a pope, Roncalli served as a Papal legate in Turkey between the years 1935–1944.[2] Roncalli, by some called “Turkish pope” within its decade-long stay in Turkey significantly contributed to the relationships between the Vatican and Turkey and was the first one to ever hold a mass in Turkish. Roncalli’s activity in Turkey led to establishing official diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Turkey.

Roncalli’s residence was located at Olçek Street, which was in his honor renamed as Papa Roncalli Street in 2000 by the decision of Şişli mayor Mustafa Sarıgül.[3]
