Mac Markway is an American football tight end for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He previously played for the LSU Tigers.

Early life and high school

[edit]

Markway grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and attended De Smet Jesuit High School in Creve Coeur, Missouri. He was a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 3 tight end nationally by ESPN and No. 8 by Rivals. Despite missing his senior season due to injury, Markway was highly regarded for his versatility and blocking skills.[1] He was a four-star rated recruit[2] and would originally commit to play college football at Florida[3] but would decommit[4] and would flip his commitment to LSU.[5]

College career

[edit]

LSU

[edit]

Markway enrolled at LSU in 2023. As a true freshman, he appeared in 12 games, including one start against Mississippi State. He recorded three receptions for 16 yards and one touchdown during the season.[6]

On August 5, 2024, Markway announced that he would not return to LSU for the next season.[7]

Nebraska

[edit]

On August 27, 2024, Markway announced that he would transfer to Nebraska.[8]

Shortly after joining the team, he suffered a torn ACL during practice, leading to a season-ending injury and a redshirt year.[9]

Personal life

[edit]

Markway's father, Matt, played as a tight end at Iowa. His cousin, Kyle Markway, played as a tight end at South Carolina and spent time with the Los Angeles Rams.[1][6]
