Kathreen Kaye Rodrigo Absuelo (Kathreen, born 8 September 1991) is an oil painter [1] with an artistic style intertwined with surrealism, abstract art, and impressionism. She explores themes of passion and the subliminal self in her paintings.[2]
Biography
[edit]Kathreen was born in Cagayan De Oro, Philippines and attended a private Catholic school where art was not part of the curriculum. Despite this limitation, she found a way to express her creativity; science became her favorite class because it provided an environment where she could draw plants and animals. At home, she developed a habit of doodling, often behind photographs and on any blank surfaces she could find.[2]
After moving to the United States, Kathreen began to delve deeper into her passion for painting. She discovered that creating art allowed her to access her inner psyche, a process that filled her with a sense of reverie. Through this exploration, she produced breathtaking panoramic scenes characterized by flowing shapes, textured layers, and intricate anatomical figures. Her peers began to notice the striking similarities between her work and renowned artists such as Salvador Dalí, Gustav Klimt, and Claude Monet, introducing her to their masterpieces. Inspired by the familiar essence within their art, Kathreen found renewed motivation to continue her painting journey.[2]
Kathreen had her first art show at the 619 Western building in Pioneer Square for the first Thursday art-walk in July 2011. 619 Western was her favorite place to go to see art by local Seattle artists, so she felt very grateful to have her first show there. A couple weeks after that, she packed and to moved down to Ventura, CA. She wanted to live somewhere close to Los Angeles, where she hoped to meet more people who would appreciate her work.[3][2]
Today, Kathreen’s most recent works reflect her emotional landscape from her twenties, serving as a profound exploration of themes such as pain, loss, and self-discovery.[2]
Career
[edit]Throughout the career of Kathreen as an Artist and Oil Painter, she has been deeply engaged in various philanthropic and volunteer activities within her communities using her skills in leadership, creative direction, marketing, curating events, and market research, and bringing people together.[4]
In November 2019, she contributed to the Keep Choosing Life 2nd Annual Benefit in Seattle, WA, donating an oil painting for auction. Prior to that, in December 2018, she also donated her artwork to the inaugural Keep Choosing Life Benefit. Her commitment to community support extends to organizing, as demonstrated in July 2017 when she took on the role of organizer for the Relief for Marawi Refugees in Davao, Philippines. Furthermore, she participated in several art auctions to support meaningful causes, including the Fashion For Conservation Inspiracion Del Peru event in May 2016, and the 11th Annual Girls On The Run Auction in February 2016, where she again donated oil paintings.[4]
Her involvement in community activities began as early as December 2014, when she served as the official event photographer for the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce and contributed to notable events like The Stranger, Capitol Hill Block Party, and Holiday Hotspot events in Seattle, Washington. From November 2012 to May 2014, she was recognized for her talents as a caricature artist, communications designer, event photographer, and even served as a judge within the organized events at the Washington State Prevention Summit Spring Youth Forum. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she organized a food drive through her non-profit organization Meraki Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to empower our communities, protect animals, and preserve the environment through meaningful projects.[4]
Through all these efforts, she has consistently demonstrated her dedication to uplifting and supporting her communities.[4]
