MPI HSP46
Vorlage:Infobox Locomotive The MPI HSP46 will be a four-axle AC-traction diesel-electric locomotive for commuter trains, currently being designed by MotivePower, Inc. It will meet EPA Tier 3 emissions standards. The launch customer will be the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), whose commuter rail system is operated by the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company (MBCR).
Background
The MBTA Board of Directors voted on July 14, 2010, to approve the purchase of 20 new HSP46 locomotives from MotivePower, Inc. These locomotives will be powered by GE GEVO-12 diesel engines from GE Transportation Systems,[1] equipped with a static inverter for head end power, and capable of meeting the stringent new Tier 3 emissions regulations. AC traction systems, HEP equipment, and computer systems will be supplied by GE, while MPI will be supplying the brake systems, air systems, and cooling systems.[2]
The locomotives are scheduled to begin arriving in 2013.[3][4][1]
