Normdaten
Hallo HBarchet, du kannst bei Autoren im VIAF-Katalog suchen, und die VIAF-Nummer zusammen mit der PND und der LCCN-Nummer als Vorlage:Normdaten eintragen. Das sieht dann so aus. Lao Language
Hello HBarchet, Thank you for your questioning about my change of the total Lao speakers from 4 to 6 million. I have added reference to my citing recently. Hope this is a proper way to cite the reliable source as I am learning to edit and improve on anything related to Laos. (I was born in Laos and now living in USA). Also, the countries that I added refer to places where Lao refugees have settled as place of residence after our plight out of Laos because of the Indochina war in the 70's. I have visited my relatives in France, Germany, and many other countries and found that it's true that large Lao communities existed in those places. We would appreciate your writing in any language that talk about Lao people and Laos. I love German beer and sausage and often attend the OktoberFest event, but I still love the Lao sausage and Lao beer...

- Hello SuperDave2, as I wrote in the commentary line, I did that revert due to lack of reference (and not because I claim to know better). It is noted in Laos#Sprache und Schrift that about 2 Mio people in Laos itself speak the language, so (to me at least) it sounds unlikely that there are another 4 Mio people outside the country speaking it. On the other hand I find it little strange that only one third of a countries inhabitants should speak the local language; maybe a long-term-result of French influence??
- For the second part (spoken in Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, USA, Canada, France): As "only" 4 Mio speakers outside Laos exist, those people cannot really put up a significant part in countries like Canada (34 Mio), France (65 Mio) or the US (310 Mio). I am sure that we have Lao communities in all these countries, but travelling around and finding someone speaking Lao (if you do not know where to look) will be quite frustrating. In Laos itself and in Thailand (espec. the North) this will be not too difficult.
- For the formal aspects: Citation is formally ok, but would look better if you put a description for the given link:

- that leads to something like here,[1] which I find more comfortable to read.

Thank you for your sample suggestion. I have copied text description for clarification for the citing. I am still learning the ins and outs of editing on Wikipedia. Anyway, the fact that you noticed that there were only about 2 million in Laos who could speak the language was a very low literacy rate (I do not know of the source citation for this.) compare to the current population of 6 million. I agree with you that the Lao speakers outside Laos is not 4 million, my estimate and best guess is below half a million. My 6 million number is taken from the current population number. It is my understanding that the estimated speakers is credited with the same number as the current population. The French influence in Laos is making my generation able to speak French as a second language. I credit the French language because it makes me learn other Latin based languages quickly.
As you know, Lao dialect is also spoken in the eastern part of Thailand. There are at least 15 million people there who speak Lao (I have many relatives there), but use Thai script as their writing. The French just used the Mekong river as a natural border between Siam (Thailand) and Laos to facilitate its colonialism on Indochina. I and many Laotians still consider the people who live on both sides of the Mekong river Lao descendants. Also, the Tai Dam people in Vietnam (Dien Bien Phu area) also speak Tai Dam language (a very close dialect of Lao). I understand Tai Dam because of its similarity with the Lao language.
