Karin Elisabeth Dreijer Andersson (born 7 April 1975 in Nacka, Sweden[1]) is the lead vocalist of electronic music duo The Knife, formed with her brother Olof Dreijer. Andersson was previously the vocalist and guitarist of the alternative rock band Honey Is Cool. Andersson released her debut solo album under the name Fever Ray in 2009. Her vocal style is notable for both shrill and deep, distorted tones combined with her distinctive accent and the use of pitch-shifting, while her image as a performer tends to include the wearing of masks and other theatrical elements. Solo work

While The Knife is currently on hiatus, Karin released her debut solo album under the name Fever Ray in March 2009 via Rabid Records in Europe and in January 2009 by Mute Records in North America. "If I Had a Heart", the first single of the album, was released digitally on 15 December 2008. The self-titled album Fever Ray was released digitally via Rabid Records on 13 January 2009.[3]

Collaborations

In 2005, Andersson supplied vocals for the track "What Else Is There?" by Röyksopp, appearing on the album The Understanding. In 2008, Andersson provided vocals for the dEUS song "Slow" from the band's Vantage Point album. In 2009, Andersson provided vocals for the tracks "This Must Be It" and "Tricky Tricky" by Röyksopp, appearing on the album Junior. Female impersonator Rickard Engfors plays her in The Knife's "Pass This On" music video.[4]
