Millionaires is a pop-electronic group consisting of three girls from Orange County, California. The group gained huge popularity on MySpace and climbed the charts early on in their career. The group consists of sisters Melissa Marie Green and Allison Green, and their best friend, Dani Artaud.[1]
The girls performed the theme songs for Teen Cribs and A Double Shot at Love[2] on MTV.
Background
Millionaires started in August 14, 2007, when Melissa Green and her sister Allison Green were just messing around with each other and made a song on their new laptop with GarageBand. They named the song "I Like Money", and decided they needed a name for themselves to make a MySpace profile for the song. They decided on Millionaires, to go with the name of the song. The next day, Dani came in the mix, and they made their second song, "Hoe Down" inspired by themselves. At the time of their myspace debut, they were considering releasing an EP with the title of "La La Love" or "Girls With Guns" containing their Garageband hits. This plan dissolved, and when a new EP plan with the title of "Shit Bitch" came up, it later too was never released.
After a few months,DJ Hyphy Crunk brought them out and they began to perform shows locally and traveled only small distances for shows. They got spots in music festivals such as Bamboozle Left 2008 and Audio Overload 2008. By July 2008, they were ready to tour and they went out on their first tour co-headlining with Breathe Carolina across the West coast. Later in July, they headlined the GET F$CKED UP tour.
In July 2008, they performed on MTV's TRL as part of On The Radar,[3] a segment where popular unsigned bands perform. The girls returned in January and February 2009 on their Just Got Paid, Let's Get Laid tour, which sold out every date.
They made a short song titled "Ooh Uh Huh", which became the theme song for MTV's reality show A Double Shot At Love with the Ikki Twins[4]. Their song "Hey Rich Boy" was also used as the theme for MTV's Teen Cribs. Their song "Alcohol" was also featured on the soundtrack for the third series of Skins. Their song "I Like Money" was featured on the MTV show "My Life as Liz." Their music and backing tracks are composed by Mark Maxwell.
A new, full length Millionaires album is in production and will be realeased in early 2010. A clip of a new song "Prom Dress" was released on the Popjustice website on December 8th, 2009 [5]. Their Christmas song "Rated Xmas" was released Wednesday December 16th.
Millionaires, along with various other crunkcore bands, have faced heavy criticism throughout the music world. Metalcore band Every Time I Die has been outspoken in it's disapproval of Millionaires and crunkcore, with lead singer Keith Buckley saying about Millionaires: "That's not even a band. A band like Brokencyde or Millionaires is kinda like what would happen if you took the band from Chuck E. Cheese and put 'em on tour." [6].
Dani Artaud is the oldest of the group being 21, Melissa Marie is 20, and Allison is 18. Dani and Melissa met at a party in their high school days and immediately became best friends.
