Vorlage:Infobox Album Suicide Season is the second studio album by English deathcore band Bring Me the Horizon, released on September 29, 2008 through Visible Noise in the United Kingdom and Europe. Visible Noise have the band signed for the World and are doing licensing deals for Australia, Japan and the USA with partners. The band signed a licensing deal with Epitaph Records on 11 September 2008, with the label releasing the album on 18 November 2008 in the United States.[1] Suicide Season is the follow-up to the band's debut album, Count Your Blessings.

The album entered the UK Albums Chart at #47,[2] the Australian ARIA Albums Chart at #28.[3] and the Billboard Top 200 at #107 with first week sales of 6,621 copies. [4]

Background information

The album was recorded in Arboga, an isolated Swedish village. Sykes described Arboga as "Nowheresville."[5] Sykes considered the isolation Arboga provided as ideal in comparison to the constant activity in Birmingham, the recording location of their first album: "We recorded Count Your Blessings in the middle of Birmingham and it was very easy to get distracted. Arboga is a village with nothing in it apart from a tiny shop and that was it. We actually lived at the studio so it meant we could all just focus on the music. Fredrik was a cool guy, and he taught us how to do stuff, so at night after he'd gone home we'd still be recording the album."[6]

In a more recent issue of Metal Hammer, Bring Me the Horizon's performance of "It Was Written In Blood" was released from the Metal Hammer Golden God Awards ceremony. The track was mis-labeled as being from This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For and was also mis-labeled as the song "Sleep With One Eye Open". Also, on the back of the CD case, the song "No Need for Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You on the Back of Toilet Doors" is mis-labeled as "No Need for Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You on the Back so Toilet Doors".

The album features guest appearances from vocalist JJ Peters of Deez Nuts, Sam Carter of Architects and Luis Dubuc of The Secret Handshake.[6]

The track "No Need for Introductions, I've Read About Girls Like You on the Backs of Toilet Doors", is Oli's way of relieving the stress of the charges pressed against him at the Nottingham Rock City on April 8 2007. Oli states that "...it's only 30 seconds long and was a great way just to relieve my stress over everything that happened. I really got my anger out on it!"[6]

On Sunday, August 10, 2008, the songs "It Was Written In Blood" and "The Comedown" were leaked on YouTube by an unknown fan without an actual video. The first promo video from Suicide Season was released on Tuesday August 12, 2008 on the Visible Noise Myspace, entitled 'The Comedown'. On August 15, "Chelsea Smile" was released on the band's MySpace page.

On September 28, Suicide Season was made available to download from the New Zealand iTunes store.

Promotion

Visible Noise have produced a site dedicated to the promotion of the album. It features a clock counting down to 29 September (the album's release date), and a scroll-over page in which the user can reveal an image of the album's artwork.

The band have also put a countdown to the release of the album in the United Kingdom. Bring Me The Horizon are also set to headline in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. The support acts include The Red Shore, Deez Nuts, The Secret Handshake, Dead Swans, The Legacy, Misery Signals, Johnny Truant, The Ghost Inside, and Confide.

Genre

The album has been described by vocalist Oli Sykes as being "more rock than metal. It's heavy though, and sounds a lot more fatter and beefier [sic]. We've also done some mellower tracks too." Sykes also states that this album will see the band "moving away from the sound" of their first album;[6] the main reason for this being that "So many bands are doing this genre [deathcore] nowadays and like a lot of people say, this genre is on its last legs."[5]

In an interview with Metal Hammer magazine, Sykes states that this album is "100% different" from Count Your Blessings.[5] He also says "We experimented a lot more I think, more with other styles of music we all enjoy, using different instruments and technology, by bringing a lot of digital stuff to the table. Every track is different."[5]
