F.T. Island (Korean : 에프티 아일랜드) is the name of a South Korean instrumental band, which mean they play their own music. The name F.T. Island stands for 'Five Treasures Island', signifying each member as the 'treasures'.[1]
Career
2007:Debut and Performances
Their first album was supposed to be released commercially in May 2007.[2] However, instead of releasing the album, all of the members appeared instead on a television program called “Dugeun Dugeun Yeochinmandeulgi” (Korean : 두근두근 여친만들기) on M.net channel. (This is officially translated by M.net as "Wanna Be My Girlfriend?" though obviously there are some grammatical errors with that.[3] "두근두근" refers to the sound the heart makes.) They also performed live on stage at the Rolling Hall and their first official showcase at Live House Melon-AX, Gwangjang-dong in Seoul on May 272007.[4] On June 7, 2007 F.T.Island performed their first debut on music television programme called M!Countdown, the day after their 1st album was finally released.[5]
First Album: Cheerful Sensibilty
Their first album “Cheerful Sensibility” combined 13 songs that can be divided into 2 parts: “Emotional Chapter” and “FT Island Chapter” respectively according to the style of the song in the album. For the “Emotional Chapter”, the genre is obviously rock ballad oriented which produced by the composers who work for many songs of famous Korean singer such as SG Wannabe. The other part, “FT Island Chapter”, tend to be the upbeat pop- rock oriented style, which was produced by the Japanese famous composers participating with the Japanese band, SMAP.[6]
