"Me, Myself and I" is the third single from Beyoncé's debut album Dangerously in Love. Released in 2004, the single reached number three, becoming Beyoncé's fourth top-ten single in the United States; it also reached eleven in the United Kingdom. The single is notable for being Beyoncé's first single as a solo artist to be released with solely R&B influences.
The song was co-written by Beyoncé, Scott Storch, and Robert Waller and co-produced by Beyoncé and Storch. In this laid-back, but strong-willed female-empowerment anthem, Beyoncé comes to terms with a cheating boyfriend, and declares that in the world that there is only one person she can trust who never lets her down: herself. She then goes on to sing "Me, myself, and I, that’s all I got in the end..."
Music video
Following her first two videos with Jake Nava, Beyoncé decided to slow things down a bit and got Johan Renck to direct the video. The music video follows the plot of the song's theme very closely and shows Beyoncé dealing with a cheating boyfriend. From the aftermath of the affair, Beyoncé discards all her old possessions reminding her of her boyfriend, and even cuts her hair in the video to become a single, but strong, empowered woman. The video is notable, as the film stock of the video is actually played in reverse.
