Kevin Smith (Footballspieler, 1986)
Vorlage:Infobox NCAA Athlete Kevin Smith (born Vorlage:Birth date in Miami, Florida) is a college football running back for the UCF Knights. Smith was the nation's leading rusher and scorer during the 2007 season, and was a consensus All-American.
High School years
Smith attended Southridge High School in Miami, Florida and was a good student and played football. In football, he was a three-year letterman, a two-time All-Dade County selection as both, a runningback and as a safety, and as a junior, he rushed for 1,125 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Awards and records
During the 2007 season, Kevin Smith ran for 2,567 (Including Liberty Bowl,14 games,30TDs) yards to lead the nation. He also scored 30 touchdowns (29 rushing, 1 receiving) to lead the nation in scoring. Barry Sanders 1988 season ran for 2850 yards (Including Holiday Bowl,12 games,44TDs, Ave 237.5 Yards pe game)
Because the NCAA did not begin counting bowl statistics until 2002, Sanders' record rushing total does not include the 222 yards he rushed for at the 1988 Holiday Bowl. It will also have taken Smith 14 games to eclipse a record Sanders needed only 11 games to set.
While Smith has already rushed the ball 415 times this season, Sanders carried it just 344 times during his record-smashing campaign. He averaged a whopping 238.9 yards per game and 7.6 yards per carry, and he set additional single-season records for all-purpose yards (3,249), points scored (234) and touchdowns (39) not including his Holiday Bowl 222y 5 TD effort.
Early in the season, Smith was touted as a dark-horse candidate for the Heisman trophy,[1][2] and ended up finishing in eighth place with 55 total points and three first-place votes[3] to become only the second player (after Daunte Culpepper) from UCF to receive Heisman votes.
Smith holds the FBS record for the most rushing attempts in a season currently at 450 in 2007, and his 2,567 rushing yard total for the 2007 season is second all-time behind only Barry Sanders 2,850 yards in the 1988 season, and 2 less games than Smith.
He was also the first consensus All-American from UCF,[4] being selected to almost every 2007 All-American First Team, including SI.com's.[5]
On December 18, 2007 Smith announced that he would stay for his senior season at UCF. At that time, he had amassed 4,679 career rushing yards, and would only have needed 1,718 yards in his senior year to break Ron Dayne's career mark of 6,397 yards. However, on January 6, 2008 Smith reversed his previous decision and announced his intention to bypass his senior season and enter the NFL draft.
=Pre-Draft
Smith ran forty yard dash times of 4.47 and 4.49 at his Pro Day.
He also jumped a 33.5" vertical benched 225 15 times. Smith projects as a third- to fourth-round pick. [6]
