Instant Star
Instant Star ist eine kanadische Fernsehserie, die in Deutschland seit Anfang 2006 auf VIVA ausgestrahlt wird. Produziert wird sie seit 2004 von Epitome Pictures Inc. Die zweite Staffel der Serie wird in Amerika seit Januar 2006 und in Kanada und Deutschland seit Juli 2006 ausgestrahlt. Seit Februar 2007 wird die dritte Staffel in Amerika gesendet. Ende 2007 wird sie voraussichtlich auch in Deutschland zu sehen sein. Ab Mai/Juni 2007 begannen die Dreharbeiten für die vierte Staffel. In jeder Episode wird jeweils ein neuer Song vorgestellt, welche in den ersten beiden Staffeln allein von Alexz Johnson gesungen werden. Ab der dritten Staffel singen auch die Charaktere Spiederman (Tyler Kyte), Patsy (Zoie Palmer) und Karma (Cory Lee) verschiedene Songs. Tyler Kyte und Cory Lee singen ihre Songs selbst ein. Die Lieder von Zoie Palmer werden von Lindsay Robins synchronisiert.
Handlung
In jeder Folge von Instant Star geht es um die Probleme und Herausforderungen des Erfolges und des privaten Lebens der Hauptdarstellerin Jude Harrison. Ihre persönlichen Erlebnisse spiegeln sich in ihrer Musik wieder.
In der ersten Staffel muss Jude anfangen sich in der Welt der Berühmtheit zurecht zu finden. Ihr Leben wird immer wieder auf harte Proben gegenüber ihrer Familie, ihren Freunden und der Schule gestellt. Sie muss lernen, dass Eltern nicht perfekt sind, Freunde manchmal nicht wissen wie sie mit Judes Erfolg umgehen sollen, dass die Liebe ein gefährliches Spiel ist und nicht alle Menschen nur Gutes im Sinne haben.
In der zweiten Staffel hat Jude es zwar geschafft in das Musikbusiness einzusteigen, doch sie muss nun lernen wie sie sich auch an der Spitze halten kann. Sie wird mehr und mehr zu einer eigenständigen Künstlerin, ist jedoch immer noch auf Hilfe von ihrer Plattenfirma, ihrer Familie und ihren Freunden angewiesen. Sie lernt wem sie vertrauen kann, muss dabei jedoch immer wieder Rückschläge in Kauf nehmen.
In der dritten Staffel wird Jude zu einer vollwertigen Künstlerin, die eigene Entscheidungen für ihre Karriere trifft. Doch vor allem ihr Privatleben wird in immer schwerere Situation mit unberechenbaren Folgen gestellt. Hier voran, ihre seit Beginn andauernde heimliche Liebe zu ihrem Produzenten Tommy.

Alle Namen der Harrison Familie stehen im Bezug zu den Beatles. Der Nachname Harrison stammt von George Harrison. Jude's Name kommt aus dem Song Hey, Jude und Sadie wurde ebenfalls nach einem Song Sexy Sadie benannt. Die Namen der Eltern Stuart und Victoria kommen von Stuart Sutcliffe (Victor ist der Zweitname von Stuart Sutcliffe, daher Victoria).

Musik
Zu jeder Staffel von Instant Star erscheint jeweils ein Soundtrack, Songs from Instant Star, der alle Songs enthält, die in der jeweiligen Staffel präsentiert wurden. Auf den ersten beiden Soundtracks werden diese alleine von Alexz Johnson gesungen, welche die Songs auch in der Serie performt.
Auf dem dritten Soundtrack werden jedoch nur noch vier Songs von ihr gesungen. Der Grund war zum teil darauf zurückzuführen, dass Johnson in dieser Staffel nicht alle Songs singt, jedoch gab es zudem noch Probleme mit der Plattenfirma bei der ihr Soloalbum erscheinen sollte. Daher wurden die Gesangsparts auf vier weitere Künstler aufgeteilt. Tyler Kyte und Cory Lee, welche Nebendarsteller der Serie sind und in der dritten Staffel Songs performen, sowie Damhnait Doyle und Lindsay Robins, zwei Songwriter der Serie.
Die Songs der Serie werden von einer Vielzahl von Songwritern geschrieben, unter anderem Damhnait Doyle, Rob Wells, Christopher Ward, Marc Jordan und Greg Johnston. Aber auch Alexz Johnson schrieb zusammen mit ihrem Bruder Brendan Johnson Songs für den ersten Soundtrack, wobei Brendan auch an dem zweiten und dritten Soundtrack mitwirkte.

Wissenswertes
Die Soundtracks wurden im Orange Record Label veröffentlicht und von Dave Ogilvie, Jody Colero und Matt Hyde produziert. Executive Producer ist Stephen Stohn, welcher gleichzeitig auch Executive Producer der Fernsehserie ist.
Brendan Johnson schreibt schon lange mit seiner Schwester Alexz Johnson Songs. Er hilft ihr bei ihrer musikalischen Laufbahn und arbeitet mit ihr im Studio.
Damhnait Doyle ist in der Serie in der Folge All Apologies, der ersten Staffel zu sehen. Sie hat einen kurzen Auftritt mit der Band Shaye und präsentiert den Song Happy Baby. Shaye ist auch im realen Leben die Band von Damhnait Doyle.
Der Song Temporary Insanity wurde 2005 von der Band The Weekend gecovert. Die Backstreet Boys coverten dieses Jahr den Song There's Us. Er ist jedoch ein Bonustrack und nur auf dem australischem Album vorhanden.

Backstage Pass
Bevor die zweite Staffel Instant Star bei The-N auf Sendung ging, gab es am 13. Dezember 2006 ein Backstage-Special. Dieses beinhaltete unter anderem Interviews mit den Darstellern und der Crew, sowie einen Rundgang auf dem Instant-Star-Set der Epitome Studios.
Außerdem gab es am 27. Januar 2007 noch ein Konzert, im Capitol Theatre in Toronto, mit Alexz Johnson und ihrer Instant-Star-Band Spiederman Mind Explosion. Es wurden die Songs Let Me Fall, Skin, Another Thin Line und My Sweet Time gespielt.

Auszeichnungen
Nach der ersten Staffel wurde Instant Star bei den Gemini Awards 2005, dem wichtigsten kanadischen Fernsehpreis nominiert. Instant Star gewann den Preis für die „Beste Regie“ in der Episode You Can't Always Get What You Want. Außerdem waren noch die Kategorien „Beste Fernsehserie“ und „Beste Darstellung“ (Alexz Johnson) nominiert.
Am 28. August 2007 wurde Instant Star für drei weitere Gemini Awards, unter anderem in der Kategorie „Beste Kinder- und Jugendserie“, nominiert. Außerdem wurden zum wiederholten Mal „Beste Darstellung“ (Alexz Johnson in der Episode I Fought the Law) und „Beste Regie“ (Graeme Campbell für die Episode I Fought the Law und Pat Williams für die Episode Personality Crisis) nominiert.
