Make Way for Ducklings is a picture book for children, published in 1941 by American author Robert McCloskey. It tells the story of a pair of mallard ducks who decide to raise their family on an island in a small pond in Boston Public Garden, a park in the center of Boston, Massachusetts.
The best-known portion of this book features a stereotypical Irish policeman who stops traffic when the mother duck and her ducklings cross the street. This scene that has achieved such prominence in American culture that it is the subject of a statue in Boston Public Garden.
