Stephen Neale

Stephen Neale ist ein britischer Philosoph. Seit 1999 ist er Philosophieprofessor an der Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Leben

Bevor Neale seine Arbeit beim Rutgers-Fachbereich angefangen hat, war er von 1990 bis 1999 Philosophieprofessor an der University of California, Berkeley, von 1996 bis 1997 Philosophieprofessor beim Birkbeck College der Universität von London, und von 1988 bis 1990 Assistenz-Philosophieprofessor an der Princeton Universität. 2002 bekam er ein Guggenheim-Stipendium, 1998 ein National Endowment for the Humanities und 1995 ein sogenanntes Scholar-in-Residence-Stipendium der Rockefeller-Stiftung.

Leistungen

Seit der Publikation Descriptions wird Neale als einer der führenden Kenner und Verteidiger der Kennzeichnungstheorie von Bertrand Russell angesehen. In Facing Facts untersucht Neale unter anderem das Slingshot-Argument.
