Nigel Hawthorne

Sir Nigel Hawthorne, CBE (* 5. April 1929 in Coventry in Warwickshire; † 26. Dezember 2001 in Radwell, Hertfordshire) war ein britischer Schauspieler.

Er wuchs in Südafrika auf und kehrte in den 1950er Jahren nach England zurück.

Seine Karriere begann mit einer Rolle in Dad's Army, seine berühmtesten Rollen spielte er als Sir Humphrey Appleby in der Fernsehserie Yes, Minister (und der Folgeserie Yes, Prime Minister), sowie als Georg III. in the Alan Bennetts Filmadaption King George - Ein Königreich für mehr Verstand, was ihm eine Oscarnominierung einbrachte, sowie den Olivier Award. Er wurde 1987 im Range eines Kommandeur Mitglied des Order of the British Empire und 1999 zum Ritter geschlagen.

Den Kampf mit seiner Krebserkrankung schilderte er in seiner posthum veröffentlichten Autobiographie Straight Face.
