Steve Lukather und Bobby Kimball

Toto ist eine kalifornische Rockband, die 1977 in Los Angeles gegründet wurde und bis heute weltweit erfolgreich ist. Insgesamt veröffentlichte die Band bislang 17 Alben und wurde mit sieben Grammys ausgezeichnet. Bekannteste Stücke von Toto sind Rosanna, Africa und Hold the Line.

Die Musik der Band lässt sich in den Stilrichtungen des kommerziell ausgerichteten, sogenannten Mainstream bzw. Adult-oriented Rock (AOR) einordnen; allerdings auf einem technischen und musikalischen Niveau, welches nur wenige Bands dieses Genres erreichen. Bei der auch als Westcoast-Style bezeichneten Musik der Band spielen Keyboards und Klavier eine wichtige Rolle, ohne allerdings, wie von manchen Bands des Progressive Rock, für Solo-Eskapaden benutzt zu werden. Die in Triolen auf dem Klavier gespielten Akkorde des Songs Hold the Line wurden beispielsweise oft kopiert.
