Wildes Haggis

Supposedly, the Wild Haggis is a creature which roams free through the Scottish Highlands. In actuality, it is merely a fictional animal spoken of to confuse the gullible. The story goes that during Haggis Season, Wild Haggis are hunted, and their meat served up as a local delicacy.

According to the legend, the haggis is a small four-legged Scottish Highland creature, which has the limbs on one side shorter than the other side. This means that it is well adapted to run around the hills at a steady altitude, without either ascending or descending. However a haggis can easily be caught by running around the hill in the opposite direction.

Such stories are not entirely confined to Scotland - for example, reports tell of a small Haggis population introduced to Nevada [1].

The notion of the Wild Haggis is extremely widely believed, though not always including the idea of mismatched legs. According to a survey released on 26 November 2003, one-third of US visitors to Scotland believed the haggis to be a real creature [2].
