Mimi Page
Vorlage:Infobox musical artist Mimi Page (born February 2, 1987) is an American singer-songwriter, music producer and composer.[1]
Musical Style
Page's original music blends ethereal vocals with beat driven, atmospheric soundscapes.[2] Page features the piano in both her studio recordings and live performances.[3]
Early life
Mimi Page was born Mimi Page Sieradzki in Los Angeles, California on February 2, 1987.[4] Page was raised by her mother Cheryl Clark, a "triple threat" dancer who performed and toured in acclaimed Broadway shows Chicago, A Chorus Line and Pippin.[5][6] From age 2-5, Page accompanied her mother on tour and traveled both nationally and internationally. At age 5, Page relocated to Las Vegas to begin grade school and attain a stable living environment. At age 5 1/2 she began classical training on the piano and composed her first original song.[7] At age 11, Page returned to Los Angeles and attended a specialized music academy to pursue her training on the piano. Despite her continued desire to sing and write songs independently, she concealed her ability to sing publicly due to shyness. Page shifted her focus dramatically when learning about an Electronic Music program offered at the school. After learning to digitally record and manipulate her vocals in her class, Page began sharing her original songs on Myspace.[8]
Solo career
Page's social media presence garnered the attention of internet and satellite radio stations, most notably Sirius/XM Chill and Soma FM Lush. In January 2011, Page self-released her first EP "A Lullaby For The Lonely" along with two additional singles, "This Fire" and "Gravity" which were all recorded and produced in her apartment. MTV's "The Real World" licensed "This Fire" in an episode which resulted in the song peaking at #11 on iTunes and #1 on Amazon.com's electronic charts. In June 2011, Page teamed up with Warren Huart to finish her full length record. Originally intended for a self-release, Page funded the production with fan donations through Kickstarter.com.[9] In October 2011 she was offered a distribution deal by independent record label Gonzo Multimedia (a division of Voice Print Records) and re-released her single "This Fire" on an EP with three additional songs.[10] In February 2012 Page released her full length debut "Breathe Me In" on Gonzo Multimedia's new imprint Hunter Records.[11][12] Electronic Music Blog "The Untz" ranked her #2 on their list of "Top 15 Producers with Pipes."[13] In March 2013 Page penned an original song titled "Requiem" for Travel Channel's series Ghost Adventures. "Requiem" has since been used as a recurring theme in multiple episodes of season 7 and season 8. She also appeared as a guest investigator in season 7's "The Glen Tavern Inn" episode and accompanied actress Brit Morgan, Zak Bagans, and the rest of the cast for an overnight "lockdown" of the haunted hotel.[14][15]
Live Performances
In support of the release of "Breathe Me In", Page toured the east coast as the opening support for Jefferson Starship on Paul Kantner's 71st birthday tour.[16][17][18] Since 2011 Page's live band includes Mehdi Hassine on bass and Damian Fink on drums.[19] Page performed her collaborative song "Butterfly" with Bassnectar at the Do Lab's 2012 Lightning in a Bottle Festival[20] and Red Rocks Amphitheater on May 31, 2013.[21]
Collaborations
Page has collaborated with a wide variety of artists, most notably in electronic dance music. In November 2011, a remix of Page's collaborative single "A Bad Place" with electronic duo Shotgun Radio and producer Minnesota caught the ear of producer Lorin Ashton (Bassnectar) and was added to his "Amorphous Music Mixtape Volume 7" release.[22][23] Ashton subsequently contacted Page and asked her to co-write a song for his upcoming album Vava Voom. In April 2012 their collaboration "Butterfly" was released as track 9 on Vava Voom. The album features other artists such as Lupe Fiasco and Amp Live. Vava Voom debuted at #34 on the Billboard Top 200 charts.[24] In regards to working with Page, Ashton was quoted in an interview with music blog "Less Than 3" saying "She ended up being one of the most flexible and diversely talented artists I’ve ever worked with."[25] In a review of Vava Voom, music critic Jim DeRogatis described Page's vocals as "gorgeous."[26] A second collaboration with Page, Bassnectar and British Drum and Bass duo DC Breaks titled "Breathless" was released on Ashton's "Freestyle EP" in October 2012 which debuted at #1 on iTunes Electronic Charts, #79 on the Billboard Top 200 charts and attained airplay on BBC Radio 1.[27] In February 2013 FOX's television series The Following featured "Butterfly" in episode "The Fall" and launched "Butterfly" up to #4 on iTunes' Electronic charts.[28] In August 2013, EDM Blog "The Untz" ranked Page #5 on their list of Top 10 EDM Vocalists.[29]
