MYAirline is a low cost carrier based in Malaysia founded in 2021.[1] It is headquartered in Subang Jaya, Selangor and primarily operates from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.[2] The carrier began its maiden flight on 1 December 2022 to Kuching International Airport.[3]

History

MYAirline (formerly known as Z9 Elite Sdn Bhd) was founded on 11 January 2021.[4] The airline awarded its Air Operator Certificate on 27 September 2022 from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia,[5] as well as its Air Service License on 15th November 2022 from Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM).[2] On July 2022, the airline received its first aircraft, an Airbus A320 (9M-DAC) leased from Aircastle Limited.[6]

The airline was initially rumoured to positioned itself as the nation's first ultra low cost carrier.[1] However, on 5 October 2022, it was clarified by the airline's CEO, Rayner Teo Kheng Hock that the carrier shall be operated as a low cost carrier. He further elaborated that MYAirline will incorporate the usage of new technology and innovation to reduce its operating expenditure, while enhancing on the good quality service and safety of its customers at the same time.[7] Amongst the improvements that have been made include the use of ergonomic seats, which was found to be light, environmentally friendly, pre-reclined and managed to save 900kg of the aircraft weight.[8]

The bookings for MyAirline was launched in 25 November 2022 and the scheduled flights for the carrier commenced on 1 December 2022.[8] The carrier, with a fleet of 3 Airbus A320 operated its inaugural service from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi.[9] During its first day of operation, the airline captured a healthy passenger load factor, with routes to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu recorded an above 80% load factor and about 70% for Langkawi.[10] The airline offered once-daily flight to Kuching and twice fights per-day to Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi. By 2 December 2022, the flight to Kuching was increased as twice-daily. A thrice-daily flight will be introduced to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching from 27 December 2022 onwards.[11]

MYAirline has also plan to serve Kota Bharu, Penang and Sibu in 2022; while expansions to Tawau, Miri, Alor Setar, Terengganu, Singapore, Jakarta, Bali, Bangkok and New Zealand[12] will be initiated after the airline received the regulatory approvals.[13][8][14]

Cabin and services

As MYAirline adopted a no-frills module, the carrier presented several optional services for an alternative additional fee. This included opportunity to increased luggage allowance, assigned seating and in-flight meals (as of December 2022):

Banggage

All of its guess are entitled for a 7kg hand luggage.[15] However, the check-in luggage is come with an extra charges that can be made online or at the counter; the fee begins at RM30 for 15kg in Peninsula Malaysia and RM35 for East Malaysia for online baggage reservations; and RM80 for the first 15kg if the purchase were made at the airport check-in counters for both Peninsula Malaysia and East Malaysia routes.[16] There are also various different baggage arrangements for the subsequent weights that can be pre-booked online or purchased in the counter.

Cabin

MyAirlines aircraft is arranged in an all-economy segment. There are a few preferred seats located on the front and the middle section of the cabin.[16]

In-flight catering

MyAirline offered meals and beverages available to purchase on board all flights exceeds 1 hour from MYKopitiam. The menu comprises of a range of hot and cold meals such as Nasi lemak, Roti jala, Mee goreng, Korean Jajangmyeon and a range of snacks. For the flights less than an hour, the passenger is required to pre-order the options online.[17]
