"Yes, And?" is an upcoming song by the American singer Ariana Grande, set to be released on January 12, 2024, through Republic Records, as the lead single from her upcoming seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine.

Background and promotion

After the release of her sixth studio album, Positions, in 2020, American singer Ariana Grande began focusing on managing her cosmetics brand, R.E.M. Beauty, and was cast as Glinda in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked.[1] She also served as a coach on the 21st season of The Voice during late 2021.[2] In a question-and-answer segment of a R.E.M. Beauty YouTube video, published in May 2022, she revealed that she would not be recording another album until she is done filming Wicked (2024).[3]

Grande teased the release of her seventh album in an October 2023 photo dump on her Instagram, jokingly saying the album title was Goat Mother. Also included in the photo dump were pictures of Swedish producer and longtime collaborator Max Martin.[4][5] On December 7 and December 17, 2023, she shared several pictures and clips of herself and members of her team working in recording studios and editing audio files.[6] She confirmed a 2024 album release via her social media on December 27.[7]

Starting on January 4, 2024, she reportedly teased towards the lead single title as she wore a sweatshirt/crewneck with the caption "yes, and?" while out and about. Similar to previous eras, the caption poses an indication to the lead single title.[8] The phrase was confirmed to be the name of the lead single when Grande officially announced the song via her social media.[9] Jem Aswad of Variety commented that "Yes, And?" was a successor to "Thank U, Next", the title of her fifth studio album (2019) and its lead single (2018).[10]

"Yes, And?" is Grande's first solo musical output since Positions.[9] Its pre-save and pre-order links for streaming services and its CD single were first shared via the Sweetener Instagram page.[11] The artwork was partially revealed in December 2023 with a defocused close-up shot of Grande's red lips via R.E.M. Beauty packages that were sent to fans, with a note: "See you next year".[12][13] Grande revealed its cover artwork via social media on January 7, 2024, which shows a blurry shot of the left side of her face. In it, she wears the "On Your Collar" classic lipstick of the red shade "Attention", which is a part of the R.E.M. Beauty collection.[14] It was photographed by Katia Temkin.[15] According to Grande, the single cover will also serve as one of the album's cover variants.[16]

Release and promotion

Grande shared a teaser trailer for the song's music video on January 11, 2024. It depicts the acronym "AG7" — a reference to her untitled seventh studio album. The geographical coordinates 41°03′59″N 71°95′45″W are displayed, which locate Montauk, New York, one of the key filming locations for the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004); Grande has claimed to be a fan of Jim Carrey, who played the lead in it.[17]

The music video for "Yes, And?" will be released via Grande's Vevo channel on YouTube at 07:00 Pacific Time (PT) on January 12, seven hours after the song's release.[17]
