Death Cab for Cutie ist eine Indie-Pop/Rock-Band, die 1997 in Bellingham (Washington) gegründet wurde.
Der Bandname stammt von einem Lied der Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Im europäischem Raum sind sie vor allem durch die Fernsehserie O.C., California (im Original The O.C.) bekannt geworden, da die Band als Lieblingsband des Schauspielers Adam Brody gilt. Auch die Serienfigur spricht darüber, dass Death Cab (geläufige Abkürzung des Bandnamens) seine Lieblingsband sei. Zusätzlich hatten sie in der 2. Staffel einen Gastauftritt und einige ihrer Songs sind in den Soundtracks der Serie zu finden.
Sänger Ben Gibbard bildet des Weiteren zusammen mit Jimmy Tamborello das Duo The Postal Service, welches ein Album (Give Up, 2003) und mehrere EPs veröffentlichte.
Chris Walla ist nebenbei auch noch Produzent und hat außer den Death-Cab-For-Cutie-Alben noch Bands wie Nada Surf, The Thermals und The Decemberists produziert.
