On May 19, 2020, Ryu announced that he would start the "25th Anniversary of Debut Project" on his 27th birthday .

On June 18, 2020, Ryu created his own Youtube Channel, dubbed "Ryutube".

25th Anniversary of Debut Project

On June 18, the same year, the YouTube channel "Ryutube" was opened as the first step. As the next step. the book titled "Omote Kamiki / Ura Kamiki" was released on 25th September.

The book has been created as one part of his debut 25th anniversary project, and it shows the "front side" of Kamiki as an actor, as well as the "back side" of him as a regular 27-year-old man.

The anniversary book contains feature words and illustrations by Studio Ghibli's Suzuki Toshio along with a phrase written by Miyazaki Hayao.

Additionally, Kamiki met with four actors that he has spent a lot of time with, in both public and private. He talks about the theory of acting with Sometani Shota, the actor that Kamiki respects the most. With Nakamura Hayato, his high school classmate and friend, they visit their alma mater Horikoshi High School. He also met up with his childhood friend Shida Mirai for the first time in a long time. Finally, he got worked up with Hongo Kanata talking about private matters. Footage of his meeting with these four actors are included in the bonus DVD.

There are also interviews with Miike Takashi, Shinkai Makoto, and Sato Takeru, as well as messages from Nakai Kiichi, Ueto Aya, Yoshizawa Ryo, Perfume, Hosoda Mamoru, and more. Finally, the book includes an interview with his mother and a picture of the two.

Family

His family consists of his father, mother and older sister who is 11 years older than him. He has two nieces. His grandma, whom he was very close with passed away in 2020.[3]

Childhood[4]

Ryuchan met Suga Kenta when they were still in elementary school. They first met on an audition and worked together in omnibus movie “ZOO”.

He has been doing voice acting since the age of 5.

From his early days, Ryuchan was obsessed with trains and loved to draw them.

His first love was during kindergarten. He started liking a girl when she said she liked him. But the next day, the girl was holding hand with another boy

When he was on junior high school, he joined ping pong club. His special skills are tennis, table tennis/ping-pong, darts.

He graduated from Horikoshi High School on 2012 together with Hey Say Jump’s Yamada, Chinen, and Yuto.

Ryu-chan served as a student committee member in the high school, and was also responsible for the school’s cultural festival and sports festival.

After graduating high school, he did not go to college because it would be difficult to study and work at the same time.

He is the lead in the anime movie "Your Name", which became the highest-grossing anime film and Japanese film of all time[9]. As of 2020, he has been integral part of all The Top 3 highest grossing Japanese Movies as well as appearing in the no.1 highest grossing Japanese live-action movie in Japan of all time.[10]

The Kamiki family's three motto's are[11]:

He is mainly called "Ryu" and "Ryuchan" by His close friends and fans.[12]

He likes to read manga and light novel. His favorite novel is "The Manzai" by Asano Atsuko-san. For manga, it’s "Bakuman".

According to Japanese Pop Group Perfume's Kashiyuka, his face should be on the 10,000 yen bill.[13]

He claims to have modest tastes. He prefers traditional Japanese foods such as natto and sashimi, and other than that, he likes carbonara. His favorite Korean food is Meat Dumplings. [14]Another one of his favorite dishes is suiton. In Rurouni Kenshin shooting site, Takeru and Kamiki cooked and served Suiton for the crew.

He is good at table tennis and can play the piano. In episode 6 of the drama "Kaze no Garden", he played the piano in a single shot without any cuts.[15]

He stars in the Music Video of Sekai No Owari's "Sazanka" (meaning "Camellia," a type of flower).[16]

Kamiki once said that his most treasure item is JUNON magazine 2009 issue, with the photo of him, Sato Takeru and Miura Haruma together.

In South Korea he is known as Japan's Yoo Seung-ho.[17]

His father liked trains and his name "Ryunosuke" is also a train's name. His hobby is photography. He likes trains from a young age and from taking pictures of trains, photography became a hobby. His Photo Book "Weekend Market" won an Award. [18]

He played the role of the historical figure Yoshitsune twice in two different Taiga Dramas.

He started practicing for his role of Seta Soujiro in Rurouni Kenshin – Kyoto Inferno even before he was offered the role.

For his role in Kokoro no Ito (2010), he learned sign language and how to play the piano.

He is close with many celebrities. Sato Takeru said that Ryu-chan is someone who is loved by everyone.

In the Busan International Film Festival, when the Director of Into the Faraway Sky (2007), was asked about Ryu-chan, he said, "When we were filming, the other child actor was better, but when I was working in the editing room, he was shining." .

According to an interview in 2011, he enjoyed watching “Dream High” and “King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo” among Korean dramas.

Despite him being more active as an actor rather than a voice actor, he participated quite a lot in the works of directors who might be called animation masters. Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, etc, Hosoda Mamoru 's Summer Wars as well as works by Shinkai Makoto.

Since a young age he has inspired many artists and characters from many famous mangas such as "Last inning", "Hoshi o Katta Hi" and "Secret World of Arrietty", to name a few were designed after Ryu-chan. He later his voiced a few of those roles.

He likes sushi, Tuna Belly being his favorite.

He finished three bowls of rice when he ate Bulgogi for the first time.

He is a loves reading mangas and one of his favorite manga is Bakuman. He was bummed not being able to voice a character in the live action but was later delighted to land a main role in the movie.

The movie that make Kamiki cried the most is "ROOKIES~ Graduation" which was starring Sato Takeru.

His favorite bands are Mr. Children and flumpoo.

He is a big fan of Fukuyama Masaharu. He always sings Fukuyama Masaharu's "Hello” at karaoke. He also got guitar pick from Masha.
