Ringu (1995)

Ring: Kanzenban (リング 完全版) is a 1995 Japanese television film that predates all other films in the Ring cycle. It is based on the book Ring by Koji Suzuki.

Plot

Newspaper reporter-turned-proofreader Asakawa Kazuyuki reluctantly enlists the help of a former contact by the name of Takayama Ryuji to break the curse of a killer videotape.

Differences

There were actually two versions of this movie, one simply titled Ring (not to be confused with the 1998 film of the same name) and Ring Kanzenban (literally, "The Complete Edition"). Ring was shown on Fuji TV in Japan in 1995 and never had a commercial release, while Ring Kanzenban received a straight-to-video release, which included more nudity and extra scenes.
