Gamesweekberlin

The gamesweekberlin (also known as Gamesweekberlin, Games Week Berlin) is a Berlin based bundle of annual conferences and events for the video game industry and for gamers, held in one week. Since 2014, it has been organised by the event agency Booster Space. The different events of gamesweekberlin include talks, panel discussions and workshops for video game developers and publishers. Main topics are game development, game publishing, marketing, esports, diversity, and human resources.

History

The gamesweekberlin was initiated and planned in 2013 in direct succession of Deutsche Gamestage. The ambition was to present the German capital Berlin as an upcoming hub for international video game production. The collaborating events, persons and organisations at this time were QUO VADIS, A MAZE., and Matchmaking Dinner as well as the curator of Computerspielemuseum Berlin and the funding institution Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. The first edition took place in April 2014 at various locations in Berlin. Its initial name was "International Games Week Berlin" (until 2015) with the motto "Connecting Game Business, Technology and Culture". The first edition attracted approximately 10.000 people, the latest event in 2019 was visited by 27.000 attendees.

Events

A MAZE. / Berlin

Established in 2008, A MAZE. is one of the oldest and internationally most renowned festivals focusing on the art and culture of games and playful media. A MAZE. / BERLIN aims to attract international creatives to participate in workshops and attend talks. Its heart piece is an exhibition that transcends between indie games and interactive art installations. The portfolio includes the production of festivals, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, game showcases, game jams, artist in residence programs and a magazine. A MAZE. goal is to represent the current state of artistic and experimental game design, alternative games and interactive digital arts. With pop-up events and appearances in different creative scenes including in Croatia, Romania, Palestine, Russia, South Africa, it takes the role of a cultural ambassador of artistic game development and underground games culture.

QUO VADIS

The QUO VADIS - game development & business conference is the oldest video game developer conference in Germany. Founded in 2007 in Oberhausen by Aruba Events GmbH, QUO VADIS moved to Berlin in 2012 and became a founding format of the Deutsche Gamestage. QUO VADIS is a constitutional member of the gamesweekberlin since 2014. In Berlin, the conference changed its location three times.

Womenize!

Womenize! Games & Tech is an event series for women and under-represented people in the games or tech industry, with an emphasis on keynotes, panel discussions, workshops, and recruiting. The format was initiated by the Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft Technologie und Forschung Berlin and was conducted for the first time in 2015 by the Berlin based event agency Booster Space.

Gamefest

The only consumer event during gamesweekberlin, Gamefest was founded in 2014 under the Name Gamefest am Computerspielemuseum. Instead of aiming for professionals from the games industry, Gamefest wants to attract gamers of all ages with a family friendly program. In the course of the efforts to unite the majority of gamesweekberlin events under one roof, Gamefest 2018 left its traditional quarters at the Computerspielemuseum and moved to the gamesweekberlin headquarters.
