Mike Birbiglia
Vorlage:Infobox Comedian Mike Birbiglia is an Italian-American stand-up comic from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts who now resides in New York.
College
In his sophomore year at Georgetown University, Mike won "The Funniest Man on Campus" contest earning him the chance to perform at the D.C. Improv. It was there that he would hone his act for three years while also holding down jobs at the ticket window, host podium and in the kitchen.
Mike's involvement with Georgetown's "Improv" group led to many lasting friendships and encounters that provided fodder for his signature routines. Many troupe members have moved on to sitcoms, standup comedy, and pop culture comedy programs on E! and VH1. They include Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Ed Herro, Brian Donovan, Conrad Mulcahy, Jacqueline Novak, and Alison Becker.
Early career
Upon graduation, Mike took his act to New York City. In just one year, Mike broke into the city's clubs, appeared on Comedy Central's Premium Blend and was chosen to perform in the "New Faces" category of Montreal's prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, where he was a standout and attracted the attention of the booker for Late Show with David Letterman. His early career was championed by Lucien Hold, the late booker for the World Famous Comic Strip Live in New York City, who compared Mike to an early Jerry Seinfeld in his style and work ethic.
Personal
Mike has a sleep disorder known as Rapid eye movement behavior disorder. Persons with this disorder can unexpectedly get up, walk, punch or kick, and even act out portions of dreams while asleep. To protect himself, Mike sleeps in a sleeping bag zipped all the way up, with special mittens so that he cannot escape when he sleeps. He has related a story on the Bob & Tom Show as well as on the Opie and Anthony Show and This American Life, where he had a life-threatening incident while sleepwalking. This story is the basis for his forthcoming off-broadway show "Sleepwalk with Me" which recently received rave reviews at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, Canada. Previews begin October 17, 2008, at the Bleecker Street Theatre.
Many of Mike's stories involve his brother, Joe Birbiglia in one way or another. Joe is usually portrayed as a mooch in Mike's stories.
Mike was married on "the 9th or 10th?" of June 2008 in a city hall ceremony in New York City, as announced on the Bob & Tom Show.

He is recorded telling an audience about his experiences with Rapid eye movement behavior disorder, a sleep disorder in which a patient physically acts out what they are experiencing while dreaming. Recent performances
From the tour, Mike created six "Secret Public Journal" video vignettes which are available on Comedy Central's Motherload website. In fall 2006, he headlined the "Bob & Tom Comedy Tour" in theaters nationwide.

Mike made his film debut starring in Per Anderson's Stanley Cuba and is developing a one-person show called "Sleepwalk with Me," with director Seth Barish which he's shaping into his next television special and CD.
On 8/2/2008 during the Opie and Anthony Traveling Virus Comedy Tour, Mike opened and was immediately booed by many audience members until he left the stage. On 8/7/2008 Gregg Hughes, the actor who plays Opie on the Opie and Anthony Show, told the audience that the August 2nd Traveling Virus Tour would be their last because the audience boos comics for no reason and does not give them a chance to perform their act.
