Antuan Ilgit (born in 1972, Germany) is a Turkish Roman Catholic priest belonged to the SJ converted from Islam.

Biography

Antuan Ilgit was born in Germany from Turkish parents from Mersin. In 1978, his family moved back to Turkey. In 1994, Ilgit graduated in Economics and Administration at Ankara’s Gazi University. A Muslim, he soon discovered Christianity, gradually.

As an economics graduate, he converted to Roman Catholicism from Islam in 1997.[1] Ilgit is involved in bioethics and he wants Muslims and Christians to engage one another in the matter.

Fr Antuan was baptised on 29 March 1997, in Saint Teresa of Child Jesus Chapel in Ankara before a gathering of some 50 faithful.

After earning his BA in Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, he did a year of studies at the Pontifical Oriental Institute and obtained a license in Moral Theology and bioethics at the Alphonsian Academy.[2][3]

In 2013 Father Ilgit received Italian citizenship.[4]
