For You Blue (englisch ‚Für-dich-Blues‘) ist ein Lied des britischen Musikers und Ex-Beatles George Harrison aus dem Jahr 1970.

Hintergrund

George Harrison äußert sich zu dem Song folgendermaßen: “For You Blue is a simple twelve-bar song following all the normal twelve-bar principles except it's happy-go-lucky!”[1] (‚Es ist ein einfacher Zwölftakt-Song, der allen üblichen Zwölftakt-Prinzipien folgt, außer daß er ganz unbekümmert klingt.[2] […] dass For You Blue ein Blues in zwölf Takten ist, der alle üblichen Klischees des Genres erfüllt, aber fröhlich und sorglos klingt.‘)[3] Der Text des Liedes richtet sich an seine damalige Ehefrau Pattie;[4] hierin erklärt George Harrison den Grund seiner Liebe: “because you’re sweet and lovely” (‚weil du süß und lieblich bist‘).

Komposition

Das im 4⁄4-Takt verfasste Lied[5] ist in D-Dur notiert[6] und hat eine Länge von 2:30 Minuten.[7] Der Song war „eine Übung im Schreiben eines traditionell klingenden Blues-Songs.“[8]

Aufnahme

Die Aufnahmen fanden am 25. Januar 1969 (Apple-Studios) und am 8. Januar 1970 (Olympic Sound-Studios) statt. Produzenten waren George Martin, Malcolm Davies und Phil Spector.[11]

Veröffentlichung

For You Blue wurde auf der LP Let it be in Deutschland am 8. Mai 1970[12] veröffentlicht. Als B-Seite der Single The Long and Winding Road erschien es am 26. Juli 1970.[13]
