Never Gonna Give You Up
Vorlage:Infobox Single "Never Gonna Give You Up" is a pop-dance song originally performed by Rick Astley. Taken from the multi-million selling debut album Whenever You Need Somebody written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. It was a worldwide number one hit, initially in the singer's native United Kingdom in 1987, where it stayed at number one for five weeks and was the best selling single that year.
It went on to be a number one throughout Europe, and then on to hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States on March 12 1988. It was also reached number one in Australia on December 1987.
In late 1987 the song was covered by Tim Clemmey & Willy Pollock, the duo in the short-lived band "Living in Wait." During recording session at Crossgates Studio outside Albany, NY, the duo also covered "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" and Clemmey did a solo of Madonna's "Crazy for You".
The rock band Nickelback has recorded a cover of this song to be put on their upcoming album.
The show Family Guy referenced this song in "Meet the Quagmires" when Brian Griffin played the song at a dance in 1984 and in reference to Back to the Future, Rick Astley's "cousin", Marvin Astley, called Rick to show him the song. [1]
The show "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" referenced this song in the episode "Charlie Has Cancer" when it is sung by Dennis Reynolds while driving.
