The train song is an important genre, particularly within the blues and other styles of traditional American music. There follows a list of songs referencing freight or passenger trains and railroads or containing extensive train imagery, organized by alphabetical order. The songs on the list are songs that have appeared on commercially released albums, soundtracks and singles, but not white label or other non-label releases. Where available, performing artist, album title on which it first appears, and date published are provided.
Songs with train or railroad in the title, but not about or inspired by trains should probably be deleted from the list. An example would be "Train In Vain" by The Clash.
This list was originally compiled and edited Wes Modes.
