Kilmore Cove
Kilmore Cove is a fictional village located in Cornwall, England, and is where the main plot of the series takes place. However, the adventures often occur parallel in other places with some of the main characters who traveled by the Doors of Time. The village is isolated from the rest of the world, and doesn't show up in the maps, as a result of The Imaginary Travelers trying to protect the Doors of Time.
Doors of Time
The story on the first six books focus on the Doors of Time and their keys. There are several Doors of Time spread around the village, and each one requires its own and unique key to open it. When open, it will lead to a distant time and space specific for each door, and it can only be opened when all of the travelers come back, or at least, the same number of people who crossed over to the destination come back. The Door of Time inside the Argo Mansion is an exception: it can take the traveler to any place he wants (is not restricted to a single location), but four keys are needed to open it, disposed in a specific pattern. The door leads to a cave, where there is a lake and a boat called Metis used to take the Travelers to their destinations.
So far only the first four novels have been translated into English through the Scholastic publishing company.
Characters
- Ulysses Moore was married with Penelope Moore. They were the previous owners of the Argo Mansion. Near the end of the sixth book it is found that Nestor, the gardener, is in fact Ulysses Moore, who has been using that cover to not be bothered by the people of the village. Since his wife's death, he started using that cover full-time.
- Penelope Moore is Ulysses' wife. He met her on a trip to Venice, and fell in love with her.
- Leonard Minaxo is the lighthouse keeper of the village. He also belonged to the club of The Imaginary Travelers, with the Moore. It is revealed near the end of the sixth book that he always had a secret passion from the librarian Calypso.
- Jason and Julia Covenant are twins from London. They live in Argo Mansion. Although they are eleven in the first book, they are thirteen from the seventh book on. They are blonde with blue eyes. Julia is a little taller than Jason.
In the sixth book, Julia starts dating Rick Banner and in the eighth book Anita Bloom becomes Jason's girlfriend.
- Rick Banner is one year older than the twins and always lived in Kilmore Cove. He's a redhead. His father died when he was young. In the sixth book, it's revealed that his father died because he was searching for the First Key along with Leonard Minaxo.
- Anita Bloom enters the story in the seventh book. She lives in Venice, Italy with her mother while her father lives in England. She finds a boom from a painter who also belonged to the club of The Imaginary Travelers, and with the help of the Ulysses Moore's diaries, she goes to Kilmore Cove to find the Covenant twins.
