Violetta Villas
Violetta Villas, bürgerlich Czesława Maria Cieślak (* 10. Juni 1938 in Lüttich, Belgien; † 5. Dezember 2011 in Lewin Kłodzki, Polen) war eine polnische, international erfolgreiche Chansonsängerin, Kabarettistin, Schauspielerin und Komponistin. Ihre Stimme wurde als Koloratursopran charakterisiert. Sie konnte Klavier, Geige und Posaune spielen und hatte absolutes Gehör [1]. Sie trug mehrere Nicknamen: Stimme des Atomzeitalters [2], the singing toast of the continent [3], die Stimme wie französischer Champagne [4]. Violetta Villas war der erste Star des Casino de Paris im The Dunes von Las Vegas [5].
Leben
In Belgien in einer polnischen Arbeiterfamilie geboren, wuchs sie in Polen auf, wo sie Klavier-, Geige- und Gesangsunterricht bekam. Aufgrund ihres absoluten Gehörs und ihrer Koloratursopranstimme mit einem Umfang von vier Oktaven wollte sie zuerst Opernsängerin werden, bekam aber früh Angebote aus dem Showbusiness, für die sie ihre Ausbildung am Konservatorium aufgab. Ihren Künstlernamen gab ihr der Pianist Władysław Szpilman.
Ihr Image, geschaffen von dem Stylisten Patrick Valette, wurde oft als bombastisch und kitschig kritisiert, schien aber der Persönlichkeit der Sängerin zu entsprechen, die gerne als Diva und Sexbombe auftrat. Aufgrund ihrer herausragenden Begabung und ihrer Stimme wurde Violetta Villas oft mit der peruanischen Sängerin Yma Sumac verglichen.
Die Karriere von Villas begann 1960 in Polen und setzte sich in Frankreich und den USA fort. Sie sang mehrmals im Pariser Olympia, in der Carnegie Hall, auf dem Broadway und hatte ihr eigenes Programm in Las Vegas. Sie trat zusammen mit Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Charles Aznavour, Sammy Davis und Barbra Streisand auf.
1989 kehrte sie in ihr Heimatland Polen zurück, wo sie weitere zehn Jahre mit wechselndem Glück versuchte, an vergangene Erfolge anzuknüpfen. Anfang der 2000er zog sie sich immer mehr ins Privatleben zurück, was teilweise mit ihren seelischen und psychischen Problemen zusammenhing. Ihr letztes Konzert fand am Valentinstag 2011 in einem provinziellen Kulturhaus in Kielce statt, veranstaltet anlässlich des fünfzigjährigen Jubiläum ihres künstlerischen Schaffens.
Villas starb vereinsamt in ihrem Elternhaus, wo sie seit einigen Jahren mit einer Pflegerin und etwa 30 Katzen lebte.
