BSD-Lizenz

Bei der BSD Lizenz handelt es sich um ein standardisiertes Copyright für Softwareprodukte.

Die Grundidee bei der BSD-Lizenz ist der Wunsch nach "Freier Software". In groben Zügen ähnelt dieses Lizenzmodell der GNU GPL-Lizenz, nur das es noch liberaler formuliert ist. Software unter der BSD-Lizenz darf frei verwendet werden. Es ist erlaubt, sie zu verteilen oder öffentlich anzubieten. Wie es z.B. bei der GNU GPL der Fall ist.

Bei der BSD-Lizenz ist der Programmierer aber nicht verpflichtet, den Quellcode seines Programms ebenfalls anzubieten.

Entstanden ist die Lizenz bei der Berkley University of California, was auch in den Copyright-Texten immer zu lesen ist. Einige Punkte des Copyright-Textes klingen deshalb auch so "selbst-verliebt" (s.u. punkt 3). Diese Formulierung ist auch ein Grund, warum einige Programmierer der Lizenz ein wenig abgeneigt sind.

Somit eignet sich die BSD-Lizenz auch für kommerzielle Produkte. Produkte unter der BSD-Lizenz müssen immer folgendes Copyright beinhalten:

Die Punkte 3 oder 4 sollen wohl bei einigen Copyrights fehlen, um den "Nachbesitzern" noch mehr Rechte einzuräumen.
