Thilo Hofmann (* 10. November 1967) ist Universitätsprofessor für Umweltgeologie an der Universität Wien. Er lehrt und forscht in den Arbeitsgebieten Hydrogeologie, Angewandte Geologie, Umweltschadstoffe und Nanogeowissenschaften.

Leben

Nach dem Studium der Geowissenschaften an der Universität Gießen, an der Freien Universität und Technischen Universität Berlin schloss er sein Diplom mit Auszeichnung 1995 ab. Er promovierte summa cum laude an der Universität Bremen bei Horst D. Schulz in Aquatischer Chemie zum Thema kolloidgebundener Schadstofftransport. Nach seine Assistenzzeit an der Universität Mainz, einer Gastprofessur in Hoh Chi Minh (Vietnam) und an der Stanford University (USA) habilitierte er 2004 in Geologie. 2005 wurde er als ordentlicher Professor an die Universität Wien berufen und leitet dort die gleichnamige Arbeitsgruppe und das Department für Umweltgeowissenschaften. Er gründet 2006 zusammen mit den Kollegen des Institutes für Geologische Wissenschaften das Erdwissenschaftliche Zentrum an der Universität Wien mit den Departments für Geodynamik und Sedimentologie, Lithosphärenforschung und Umweltgeowissenschaften. Seit 2012 ist der Dekan der Fakultät für Geowissenschaften, Geographie und Astronomie.
