National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

Die National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (engl. Nationale Organisation für die Förderung farbiger Menschen), auch NAACP genannt, ist eine der ältesten und einflussreichsten Bürgerrechtsorganisationen der USA. Sie ging aus dem 1905 gegründeten Niagara Movement hervor und wurde am 12. Februar 1909 ins Leben gerufen, um zugunsten der afro-amerikanischen Bevölkerung zu arbeiten.

Gründungsmitglieder waren William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, Ida Wells-Barnett, Henry Moscowitz, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Garrison Villard und William English Walling.

Die NAACP zählte zu den Unterstützern und Organisatoren sowohl des Marsches auf Washington 1963 also auch des Millionen-Mann-Marsches 1995.
