All for You (Lied)

"All for You" is the first single from American R&B/pop singer Janet Jackson's seventh studio album, All for You (2001).

Song information and chart performance

The song is based upon a sample from Change's "The Glow of Love", which featured Luther Vandross. It made history by being the first single ever to be added to every major format of radio on the day of its release. The song became Jackson's tenth and, to date, final number-one on the Billboard Hot 100, staying at number one for seven weeks. It also reached number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Dance Club Play charts. The song was also an international success, peaking in the top ten of almost all European countries, reaching the top five in Australia and New Zealand, and reaching number one in Canada, and other countries. The song won several music awards, including a Grammy Award for "Best Dance Recording" in 2002.

Music video

The video, directed by Dave Meyers, is based upon a colorful two-dimensional world. Released in July 2001, it starts with Jackson on the subway checking out a cute guy reading a magazine. When the subway stops, Jackson gets off and her dancers show up, and they began high octane choreography in the subway station throughout the first verse and second chorus. Jackson and the dancers then go to a beach and begin dancing. This also continues throughout the second verse and the third chorus.

Next, Jackson and the dancers move to the nightlife scene. Jackson and the dancers have a dance breakdown to the beat from sister Rebbie Jackson's Centipede and Jackson's own 1986 song "The Pleasure Principle". Her 1998 hit "Go Deep" and Shannon's 1983 "Let the Music Play" are also sampled. Similar to the video for "Doesn't Really Matter", there is a point at which the music stops and Jackson and the background dancers do a dancing secene. After the breakdown, Jackson and the dancers continue with the choreography until the end of the song. This is when the dancers leave and Jackson spots the cute guy outside of a club. He smiles at her and she waves at him. Jackson turns around and leaves. The video fades out.
