The Tambo River is a river in East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.[1]
The Tambo River begins in the Bowen Mountains in the southern reaches of the Australian Alps about 10km east of Benambra ( ) and flows south into Lake King ( ), one of the main lakes in the extensive Gippsland Lakes system.[2]
After leaving the mountains near the locality of Bindi north of Swifts Creek the river flows through the Tambo Valley to Bruthen, with the Great Alpine Road following its route for much of this distance, after which the river flows over the Tambo River flats to Lake King.[1] Along its route it passes by the towns of Swifts Creek, Ensay South, Bruthen, Swan Reach and Johnsonville.[2]
