Vorlage:Advert Smoke Fairies are Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies, a British musical duo. Influenced by American blues and English folk and their music is characterized by interweaving guitar picking and vocal harmonies, described by Mojo magazine as 'dark, lustful blues-folk'.[1] The band's name alludes to the summer mist that collects in the hedgerows of Sussex’s narrow country lanes.

Background

Blamire and Davies met at school in Sussex during the mid-late 1990s. They began singing together in the school choir, picking up their parents’ guitars and obsessing over Davies' mother's vinyl albums collection, dominated by American ‘70s classics. A year spent in New Orleans in 2002 also helped shape their sound. Back in England, they discovered British folk at the Sidmouth Folk Festival while working as car park attendants. They later spent a year living in Vancouver, Canada, before returning to London to start gigging. In 2007 they supported Bryan Ferry on a tour of the UK and later toured with The Handsome Family in the Spring of 2009. They began self-releasing singles and an EP which gained national airplay and acclaim from various publications including Mojo, NME and The Times.

In December 2009 Jack White's Third Man Label released a 7" single "Gastown/ Riversong". The track was produced by Jack White III and featured him on guitar and drums.

In the Spring of 2010, the Smoke Fairies headed for Sawmills studio in rural Cornwall to start work on Through Low Light and Trees with producer Head (best known for his work with PJ Harvey) and their current live band. The album was released on 6th September 2010.

Having toured with Richard Hawley across Britain in autumn 2009 and then playing several shows at the 2010 SXSW festival, they then headed off to the United States to support Laura Marling for a month. The Smoke Fairies have also guested on Richard Hawley's recent EP False Lights from the Land.
