Laura G. Ling (Vorlage:Zh-cp) (born December 1, 1976[1] in Carmichael, California[2]) is a Chinese American journalist working for Current TV. She is the sister of Lisa Ling, a special correspondent for The Oprah Winfrey Show and CNN.
In June 2009, the government of North Korea convicted Ling along with Euna Lee in what many in the media are calling a show trial,[3] of committing "hostile acts" against North Korea and illegal entry, for which each was sentenced to 12 years of hard labor.[4] The United States government is making diplomatic efforts to oppose this sentence.[5]
Lisa Ling stated that her younger sister and the other reporter never intended to cross into North Korea. She has also revealed that her sister requires medical treatment for an ulcer she is currently suffering from.[6]
