Moby, geboren als Richard Melville Hall (* 11. September 1965 in Harlem, New York City), ist ein Musikproduzent, Sänger und DJ im Bereich der elektronischen Musik. Seinen Künstlernamen hat er von seinem Ur-Ur-Großonkel Herman Melville, dem Autor von Moby Dick abgeleitet.

Moby verbirgt sich ebenfalls hinter dem Musikprojekt "Voodoo Child".
Karriere
1991 gelingt ihm mit der Single "Go" ein Top-Ten-Hit. Ein weiterer großer Erfolg ist Mitte der 90er seine unter anderem von Westbam geremixte Maxi "Feeling So Real". Zum internationalen Gesicht des Techno wird er aber erst 1999 mit dem CD-Album "Play", auf der er alte Gospelgesänge mit Elektropop mixt. Im Jahr 2002 trat Moby zur Abschlußveranstaltung der Olympischen Winterspiele in Salt Lake City auf.
Er meldet sich in Interviews und im Internet regelmäßig mit prononcierten Meinungen zu Wort. Moby setzt sich zudem privat für Tierrechte ein und lebt ausschließlich vegan.
