Mimi Page (born February 2, 1987) is an American singer-songwriter, and producer based in Los Angeles, California.[1] She is most notably known for her single "This Fire" which appeared on iTunes and Amazon charts.[2]
Artistry
A hybrid of Dream Pop and Trip Hop, Page's original songs blend ethereal vocals with beat driven, atmospheric soundscapes.[3] Page features the acoustic piano as her main instrument in both her studio recordings and live performances.[4]
A Lullaby For The Lonely (2011)
In January 2011, Page self-released her first EP "A Lullaby For The Lonely" along with two singles, "This Fire" and "Gravity" which were recorded and produced in her studio apartment. Page attained airplay on multiple internet, college, and satellite radio stations, most notably Sirius/XM Chill. MTV's "The Real World - Las Vegas" subsequently licensed "This Fire" for a sexually driven scene and the exposure resulted in the song peaking #11 on iTunes and #1 on Amazon.com's electronic charts.[2]
Breathe Me In (2012-Present)
In June 2011, Page approached producer and engineer Warren Huart to finish her full length record. Originally intended for a self-release, Page funded the production with fan donations through Kickstarter.com.[5] In October 2011 she signed with UK label Hunter Records / Gonzo Multimedia (a division of Voice Print Records) and re-released her single "This Fire" on an EP with three additional songs.[6] In February 2012 Page released her full length debut "Breathe Me In".[7][8] Page is also known for her covers of "Dovahkiin" and "Secunda" from the video game Skyrim.[9][10][11]
Tours and Live Performances
In July 2011, "This Fire" caught the ears of Jefferson Starship's management who offered her an opening spot supporting the band on Paul Kantner's 71st birthday tour.[12][13] Kantner was quoted saying "I drink the Mimi Page Kool-Aid".[14] In May, Page sang "Butterfly" live with Bassnectar at the Do Lab's 2012 Lightning in a Bottle Festival in Silverado, CA.[15]
Collaborations
In addition to her career as a solo artist, Page has collaborated with a wide variety of artists in the electronic dance music world, most notably Dubstep. [16]A remix of Page's collaborative single "A Bad Place" with electronic duo Shotgun Radio and producer Minnesota caught the ear of producer Lorin Ashton (Bassnectar) and was added to his "Amorphous Music Mixtape Volume 7" release.[17] Ashton subsequently contacted Page and asked her to co-write a song for his upcoming album Vava Voom. In April 2012 their collaboration "Butterfly" was released as track 9 on Vava Voom. The album features other artists such as Lupe Fiasco and Amp Live. Vava Voom debuted at #34 on the Billboard Top 200 charts.[18] In regards to working with Page, Ashton was quoted in an interview saying "She ended up being one of the most flexible and diversely talented artists I’ve ever worked with."[19] In a review of Vava Voom, music critic Jim DeRogatis described Page's vocals as "gorgeous."[20] A new collaboration with Page, Bassnectar and British Drum and Bass duo DC Breaks titled "Breathless" was released on Ashton's "Freestyle EP" in October 2012.
