Vorlage:Short description Vorlage:About Vorlage:Use dmy dates Vorlage:Infobox national football team The Saudi Arabia women's national football team (Vorlage:Lang-ar) is the official women's national football team of the country of Saudi Arabia. The team is controlled by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), the governing body for football in Saudi Arabia.

Colloquially called "the Green Falcons", Saudi Arabia played their first match in 2022 against the Seychelles in a 2–0 friendly win in the Maldives.

History

Due to the religious nature of the country, Saudi Arabia had been historically strict and therefore discouraged its women from playing football. As for the result, while the men's team has been among one of Asia's powerhouses, its women's team didn't come to prominence like that of the men's.

Since the death of King Abdullah in 2015, the new King, Salman, began a slow process to give more rights for women to participate in Saudi social and economic development, including football. Since 2019, Saudi Arabia officially created the first unofficial women's league in the Jeddah area, while discussion continued about the establishment of a women's football tournament as means to improve the country's football standing, and to catch up with the stronger women's forces in Eastern Asia.

In 2021, Saudi Arabia officially founded the Saudi Women's Football League.[1][2] On 20 February 2022, Saudi Arabia's women's national team made their debut, beating the Seychelles in a 2–0 friendly win in Malé, Maldives.[3]
