David Farrier (born 25 December 1982) is a New Zealand television reporter and actor.
Television
Farrier has been a staple for both 3 News[1] and Nightline as their entertainment reporter since 2006 until the show's end in 2013.
He often travels to Los Angeles to cover movie premieres and events like the E3 videogame convention. He most recently covered musician Lorde's Grammy wins from the Staples Center[2].
Notable interviews have included Trent Reznor[3], Karl Pilkington[4] and Serj Tankian [5].
In 2011 Farrier made a documentary for TV3 New Zealand about the origins of the National Anthem[6].
In 2014 he was cast in Rhys Darby's television series Short Poppies as the host/presenter.
Podcasting
Farrier has an interest in cryptozoology, hosting podcast and radioshow The Cryptid Factor with comedian Rhys Darby[7].
In 2009 Farrier travelled to Mongolia to investigate the legend of the Mongolian Death Worm[8][9][10], and in late 2013 visited Texas with Darby to film an undisclosed project about the Chupacabra[11].
Writing
Farrier also works as a freelance writer, covering pop culture[12][13] and travel [14]. He recently profiled actor Stephen Tobolowsky[15]
Other work
In 2013 he put on a storytelling show in Auckland, New Zealand with LA-based actor Stephen Tobolowsky[16]. He has hinted more events like this will take place in 2014.
Education
Farrier graduated from the Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Communication Studies degree in 2005.
Personal life
David was raised in Bethlehem, Tauranga and attended Bethlehem College.[17] In 2012, during the Government sitting of New Zealand's Gay Marriage Bill, Farrier came out as bisexual and that he was in a gay relationship with Grayson Coutts, the son of New Zealand yachtsman, Russell Coutts. The couple has since broken up.[18]
