Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza ist ein amerikanisches Musikfestival mit Alternative Rock-, Rap-, und Punk Rock-Bands, Dance und Comedy.

Lollapalooza wurde erstmals 1991 von Perry Farrell als Abschiedstour seiner Band Jane's Addiction organisiert. Lollapalooza fand jährlich bis 1997 statt. Eine Neuauflage 2003 verlief erfolglos, da die Besucher auf Grund von hohen Kartenpreisen und starkem kommerziellen Sponsoring fernblieben.

Die Bedeutung der Lollapalooza-Festivals für die 1990er wurde mit der Bedeutung des Woodstock-Festivals für die 1960er verglichen.

Im Gegensatz zu anderen Festivals tourte das Lollapalooza-Festival durch die USA und Kanada. Das Line-Up der Lollapalooza-Festivals war genreübergreifend und brachte z.B. 1991 so unterschiedliche Künstler wie Ice-T und die Nine Inch Nails gemeinsam auf die Bühne.

Ein weiteres Konzept des Festivals war die Einbeziehung von nicht-musikalischen Auftritten, z.B. von Freak-Shows wie dem Jim Rose Circus oder Shaolin-Mönchen. Außerdem gab es Kunstausstellungen, Virtual-Reality-Spiele und Informationsstände von politischen und ökologischen Nichtregierungsorganisationen.
