Opera North is a British opera company.
The company is based at the Grand Theatre in Leeds, but it also presents regular seasons in several other cities. The company's orchestra, known as the English Northern Philharmonia, regularly performs and records in its own right.
It was originally created as a part of English National Opera, and was known for a while as English National Opera North. It had the specific intention of delivering high-quality opera to the northern areas of the country that, up to that point, had had no regular opera company. The name changed to Opera North, and the official ties with ENO no longer exist. Unlike ENO, the operas are in the original language, not English.
