Skyclad ist eine Musik-Band.

Skyclad gelten als „Erfinder des Folk Metal“, haben seit 1991 elf Studioalben veröffentlicht, hatten Mitte der 90er u.a. Subway To Sally als Support (!) mit auf Tour (nach dieser Tour sind lustigerweise STS etwas "härter" geworden und Skyclad etwas "folkiger").

Album Nr. 12 (übrigens das zweite mit Kevin Ridley als Sänger) ist inzwischen fertig und soll im Spätsommer dieses Jahres erscheinen.


1990: Das Projekt Skyclad

Skyclad wurden von Gitarrist Steve Ramsey und Sänger Martin Walkyier gegründet. Steve war zuvor Gitarrist bei der britischen „NWOBHM Legende“ Satan (später umbenannt in Blind Fury, dann wieder in Satan und schließlich in Pariah), die zwischen 1982 und 1989 eine Single, eine EP und fünf Alben veröffentlichten. Er spielt 1990 zusammen mit Martin Walkyier, dem Ex-Frontmann der britischen Thrash Metal Formation Sabbat, ein Demo für ein ursprünglich auf ein Album ausgelegtes Bandprojekt ein. Steve's Satan/Blind Fury/Pariah-Bankumpel Graeme Englisch und Schlagzeuger Keith Baxter vervollständigen das Line-up und das Projekt wird auf den Namen Skyclad getauft. Im Dezember beginnt der Vierer aus Newcastle zusammen mit Produzent Kevin Ridley das Debutalbum „The Wayward Sons of Mother Earth“ aufzunehmen. Während es sich bei einem großteil der Songs um Thrash Metal mit leichen Folk-Einflüssen handelt, deutet sich insbesondere bei dem Lied „The Widdershin's Jig“ (mit Gastmusiker Mike Evans an der Geige) an, in welche Richtung sich die Band weiterentwickeln sollte...
