Ruth Jones (born January 1967) is a Welsh actress, comedian and writer best known for co-scripting and starring in the multi-award winning TV comedy Gavin & Stacey. She is also known for her comedy performances in Little Britain, the cult hit Nighty Night and Saxondale plus for dramatic roles in many other high profile TV dramas such as Kay Mellor's Fat Friends and Jimmy McGovern's The Street with Timothy Spall.

Biography

Jones was educated at Porthcawl Comprehensive School and graduated in drama and theatre studies from the University of Warwick before attending the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. She first worked in TV and radio comedy for BBC Wales from 1991, both writing and performing in several radio series and TV comedy programmes with the comedy/drama producer David Peet.Vorlage:Citation needed Theatre with the RSC and The National Theatre was followed by her performance in the hit British movie East Is East. After this Jones appeared as Kelly in four series of ITV's comedy Fat Friends, as Myfanwy in BBC's Little Britain and as Linda in the BBC cult black comedy Nighty Night. In 2008 she featured in the two BBC One period costume dramas Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Little Dorrit, the Gavin and Stacey series she co-wrote with James Corden and in The Street with Timothy Spall.

In 2008, Jones co-founded Tidy Productions with producer David Peet. Tidy is an independent tv production company based in Cardiff specialising in comedy and comedy drama. It has production credits and commissions in production and pre-production with the BBC, Sky and the Welsh language tv channel S4C.

Recognition and awards

Winner of Best Female Comedy Newcomer at the 2007 British Comedy Awards, Jones was also nominated for Best Television Comedy Actress.[1]

Winner of "Ultimate Funny Woman" at the annual Cosmopolitan 'Ultimate Women Of The Year Awards' November 2009.

Stand up comedy

In 2010, Jones took part in Channel 4's Comedy Gala, a benefit show held in aid of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, filmed live at the O2 Arena in London on 30 March.
