About

Commodore OS, full name Commodore OS Vision, is a free to download GNU/Linux distribution developed by Commodore USA and intended for its Commodore-branded PCs. The distribution is based on Debian and Linux Mint, available only for x86-64 architectures, and uses the GNOME 2 desktop environment. The first of the public beta versions has been released on 11 November 2011.[1] It has been continually updated through Commodore OS Vision 1.0 Beta 8.

Compatibility

Commodore OS retains capability to run older programs from the Amiga O.S. through emulators. It also allows for running of software designed for Windows O.S. It does this through the following: Commodore 64, Commodore C128, CBM-II, Commodore PET, Commodore VIC-20, Commodore Plus/4, DOSBox, & PC Operating System (VirtualBox). [2]

Design

Commodore OS was designed as a nostolgic way to emulate the look and feel of previous systems of Commodore's computers, as a compliment to the all-in-one-keyboard style of computer.
