The Expendables 2
Expendables 2 is an upcoming ensemble action film directed by Simon West. It is a sequel to the 2010 film The Expendables which was directed by Sylvester Stallone.
Synopsis
After Tool (Mickey Rourke) is murdered, the Expendables embark on a mission of revenge. Complicating matters is Tool's daughter Fiona, who is captured by a ruthless dictator while following her own path for vengeance.[1]

- Stallone noted his intention to have Schwazenegger return for a sequel before the release of The Expendables, stating "If this works, I would love to get him in the next one".[2] Schwarzennegger's involvement was confirmed on September 6, 2011, his "substantial" role expanding on his cameo in the original film.[3]
- Bruce Willis as Mr. Church
- In late August 2011, Stallone stated his interest in having Willis return for a role in the sequel — expanding upon his brief cameo in the original — potentially as a "super villain".[4] Willis' was confirmed to be involved in a "substantial" role on September 6, 2011.[3][5] Commenting on the film, Willis said "Hopefully, they'll start shooting it while we're young enough to survive."[6]
- Jean-Claude Van Damme as Jean Vilain[7][8]
- Leader of an opposing team of mercenaries.[9] Van Damme had previously been offered a role in The Expendables but failed to come to an agreement with Stallone and ultimately never took part.[10] Commenting on the role, Stallone said "We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one."[8]

Sources said that Stallone had been talking with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, Carl Weathers, Vin Diesel, The Rock,[15] Charlie Sheen,[16] Chuck Norris, Lorenzo Lamas, Jeff Speakman, Olivier Gruner[17] John Travolta,[18] and Ryan Seacrest[19] about the sequel, which he intends to be "a love letter to martial arts".[17] Stallone reportedly wants Sheen to play a CIA agent chasing Willis' crime lord character,[16] while Norris's role will be a cameo like Schwarzenegger's in the first film.[17] Lerner has also asked Chinese martial arts actor Donnie Yen to appear in the film.[20] Taylor Lautner turned down to be in the movie and Scott Adkins is going to join the cast.[21]
Other actors considered were Christopher Lambert, Nicolas Cage and Christian Slater.[22] It has been noted, however, that these actors have yet to receive offers to appear in the film.
Production
Development
Prior to release, Stallone stated, "I have an idea ready to go" and "I'm going to try to do something that's quite radical".[23] In an interview on August 15, 2010, he said that he does not have a new script yet, but "It's plotted out in my mind's eye".[24] On April 17, 2011, Sylvester Stallone confirmed to Deadline that he will not be writing or directing The Expendables 2. However, he has confirmed he will reprise his role as Barney Ross. David Agosto and Ken Kaufman have been hired to write the script based on a story by Stallone. Lionsgate confirmed at CinemaCon that the sequel will be in US theaters on August 17, 2012.[25] A teaser poster for the film was released at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.[26] It has been confirmed that Simon West will direct the sequel.[27] The film is to be shot at the Nu Boyana Film studios in Sofia, Bulgaria.[18]
Filming
On a $100M budget,[7] principal photography began on October 13, 2011,Vorlage:Cn scheduled to take place over 14 weeks.[7] The Expendables 2 is to be filmed in Bulgaria, Russia, France and China. On October 9 Chuck Norris, Jason Statham and Arnold Schwarzenegger flew to Bulgaria to film their scenes.[28]
