Open protocol or open communication protocol is communication protocol that is openly accessible and usable by anyone. Use of open protocols is not restricted and their specification is licensed with open license. Difference with a closed protocol is that closed protocols are typically designed by one or a few parties who can restrict the use of the protocol and change it as desired. Open protocols are generally designed by a large number of different parties, so the protocols become more general and suitable for more uses.[1][2][3]
